4/20/22 Drive Day From Las Vegas to Tehachapi

We left out of Sin City right about 8 am and headed west on I-15 towards Barstow. we had such a good time in Vegas and at the Resort. We met some very nice people and really enjoyed their company.

Just on the Western outskirts of Las Vegas we stopped at The Seven Magic Mountains. It is basically giant cairns painted super bight colors. It is one of many outdoor art pieces that the State helped create using individual artists. (Big Ball of String).

After the feeding our personal rainbows (if I only had some Skittles) we headed west to drive the 130 miles to Barstow. Along the way we filled up for the first time in California. High gas prices really don’t bother us; it’s part of the trip, but holy moly! Anyway, just got to keep moving. The countryside we are experiencing, and now from sea to shinning sea, is all worth it.

A quick stop in Barstow at a huge freight yard/museum and a bite to eat (left over ham…yummy). The museum is a restored Harvey Hotel.

The final 91 miles to Mountain Valley Airport/RV Park was a windy one. OMG windy. The Little Mirada was a hand full. I’m glad we were not towing the Colorado. I would have probably unhitched it for the drive.

Shortly after we set up Sharon and I walked over the glider school to check out what was happening. Today a group of high school engineering students were being give rides. By talking to them, you could tell they were loving it. We met one of the owners as she was working in the onsite cafe. It was very cool to learn she had just recently moved from Florida to help out with the family operation. We will be having breakfast with her and the Crew tomorrow morning. (they have a breakfast sandwich…yeah!)

We then drove into Tehachapi to check out the town…..lots of cool murals on many of the historic buildings. Both of us were very impressed at how clean and tidy the town was.

  1. Nice action shot of Dwight 🙂 – how many jumps did that take? Enough to work off breakfast??

  2. Ouch on the gas! We’ll experience that in Canada and Iceland soon enough! Enjoy the rest of your trip.
