As we left St Augustine back at the end of December, trouble befell us about 100 miles west of Jacksonville. As we stopped for a quick break along I-10 we noticed a weird sound coming from our engine. After investigation we were able to identify the noise as a potential valve train issue and potentially a destroyed RV engine. We limped it back to Rays Commercial Services in St Augustine for repairs. Thank goodness it was not terminal. While at Rays one of the best old school mechanics, Aaron, confirmed my thoughts. Our first indication was that it could take up to 4-6 weeks to repair. But after getting into the engine a bit, Aaron was able to get it done much quicker. The end result was nothing short of amazing.
This particular problem is not well documented except in individual you tube videos. This engine has been around since 1997 and has gone through 3 generations. Like all engines the Ford V-10 has it’s strengths and weakness’. It’s worth it for you to learn as much as you can about your RV, car, etc. so that you can make good choices when you need to and so that you do not have a potentially destroyed RV engine.
