A hike to Grinnell Glacier

A hike to Grinnell Glacier

Second day in Glacier and she did not disappoint. Hiked approximately 11 miles round trip to Grinnell Glacier. It was a tuff one. 2500 feet of elevation gain and 1000 feet of loss each way. And did I say rocks, about 50% of the way the hike was over mother natures well placed rocks and glacial debris. It was worth every step. The ROI (return on investment) was nothing short of spectacular. Not only did we see an awe inspiring slice of mother nature; but Sharon had her first PB and J sandwich for lunch at Grinnell (and twinkie for desert). Dwight hooked up with Mike and they both went beyond the warning sign, crossed the waterfall and walked probably a mile across Grinnell’s debris field and actually touched the Glacier. As Dwight says, the sign only says “it is not recommended” to go further. No absolutes here. “After all, it’s not like I’m taking a selfie with a bison. Now that’s dangerous”. And on top of all of that eight hours of adventure wildlife was very abundant. Rams, goats, bear, chipmunks, Marmots. Enjoy.

We made it !!
Dwight and Mike where they shouldn’t be. On the way back from touching the glacier.
Now that’s big ice!!
