We left Savannah’s place and after a stop at Lowes and Walmart for needed supplies we headed east
on I-84 along the Columbia River. About the only word that can describe the scenery is…spectacular.
This area is completely new for Sharon and I; neither of us has ever been in this part of the Country.
Driving along side of the Columbia River was amazing. The interstate winds and follows the River and the mountains that surround it.
What really caught our eye was the signs on the south side of I-84 for the old US Route 30. US Route 30 is the Lincoln Highway that stretches over 3000 miles from New Jersey to Astoria Oregon. In this area it is mostly now a single lane road and used as walking and biking trails; but very cool to know the history is still there.
As we arrived in The River Gorge area we arrived at the River Gorge Base Camp RV Park. What a really nice place. Paved sites and full hook ups!!!
We spent the first day of our 3 nights checking out The Mount Hood area. Wow, so much great scenery and things to check out. The main event was out 40 mile ride up Mt Hood along Oregon 35 to The Timberline Lodge Ski Area. The Lodge was built by The Works Progress Administration in the late 1930’s. The building was amazing to see and walk around in. We grabbed a quick bite to eat (Sharon said hot chili was the way to go at a ski lodge) and watched some action on the ski slopes.
On our way back to the RV Park we stopped at two of the many wineries in the area and participated a few wine tastings and of course brought some back with us.
